I am Steven Grant. I am an Integral Coach and a Zen Teacher. I’ve also built a career as a successful product designer and leader. I understand the challenges of navigating the high-pressure tech world while seeking a more authentic, meaningful life. This has been my journey and why I’m driven to help others.

We Each Have a Unique Journey

In my early years

I was drawn to Buddhism as a teenager, as a way of finding solace from a challenging and unsafe home life. I taught myself to meditate from a library book. On one very difficult day, I asked for a reason to carry on and received realization that I should integrate all of my talents and gifts and that I should live a balanced life that included work, family, spirituality, and play. This was the first time I felt my life had a deeper meaning.

Creativity and Design

I went to art school and began work as an illustrator and designer. As computers became popular, I learned HTML and have specialized in UX design, working with startups and eventually large organizations like Microsoft and Amazon.

Zen and Teaching

In 1989, I met my first Zen Teacher, Genki Takabayahsi and began a daily morning meditation practice. In 1994 I was ordained as Unsui, a Zen Buddhist monk and I began leading beginner’s meditation classes which I continue to do. For many years, I worked as a Buddhist Chaplain at a prison in Washington State. I have formed several community meditation groups along the way. In 2002, I received my second Unsui ordination in 2005 became a Buddhist Priest under Diane Eshin Rizzetto. In 2011, I began work with the Pacific Zen Institute and I received dharma Dharma Transmission May 30, 2015 from John Tarrant, Roshi. in  now beginning an independent community in the Charlotte North Carolina area.

Coach and Healer

In 2015, I received Dharma Transmission, recognition as a successor in the lineage of Buddhist teachers.

That same year I attended School for The Work with Byron Katie. My path deepened to include Shamanism, Vajrayana Buddhism, and Intuitive studies. In recent years, I attended a two-week training in Shamanic Healing, completed a Reiki Master Teacher Training, and I received the Integral Coach Certification through New Ventures West Professional Coaching Course in the Fall of 2019. This Course has been recognized by the International Coach Federation (ICF) as an Accredited Coach Training. My work as a teacher and healer deepens as I integrate all areas of study.

Working with Me

I blend my experience as an integral coach and Zen teacher with my experience as a creative designer to support my clients in personal transformation. I know how challenging it is to be both creative and authentic in the tech world. And I know that it’s possible to navigate the corporate world while remaining engaged with a warm heart.

I believe that each of us has our own essential inner wisdom that, when seen and supported, will help dissolve self-limiting beliefs. I partner with clients to tune into this wisdom and realize deeper meaning and purpose. I meet each client where they are and develop a personal coaching program to help create a more authentic life.

I’m here to help guide the next part of your unique journey.
